All week I’ve been surviving off of about 4 hours sleep. Between working all day and running a million errands, I’ve been plain ole exhausted (thank God, not to the point of burn out)!
Taking a nine year in and out of a wheelchair several times a day can be rough.
On top of that, I have no idea where my bottle of peppermint oil disappeared to (more on that later). So, I chose to lean on the beast of caffeine for help with my fatigue.
This wasn’t the best choice for dealing with fatigue. I’ve never been a big coffee drinker (except the caramel flavored kind

Today, I wrote a letter to my list of Stress Less newsletter subscribers about Change. I shared how just as we experience the change of seasons, it’s just as important to seek change when it comes to your personal care.
Change doesn’t come easily for most people but it is something that should be embraced when you have a life as challenging as being a caregiver to a special needs or other health challenged individual.
Caregivers are no strangers to stress. After a long stressful day, the one thing you want is a way to quickly unwind. You may rush to jump in a hot bath. You may lay down as soon as you come in the door. One thing for sure is, you want peace and you want it FAST.
An Age Old Remedy
The use of essential oils in aromatherapy is an alternative method of health care that not many people understand. That’s why having a willingness to change your traditional views of health care is important if you are going to experience the benefits.
The use of essential oils has been practiced for many years, yet it still takes some change of thinking to reach out and embrace this age old remedy. Essential oils have been used to treat conditions such as:
- Relieving aches and pains
- Skin Care (burns, acne, cold sores, psoriasis & more)
- Insomnia
- Contagious diseases
However, one of the most common uses for essential oils is for uplifting or calming dampened or frazzled emotions.
Purity Equals Potency
When deciding on what brand of essential oil to use, there’s one thing to keep in mind. Purity equals potency.
There are a number of essential oil “makers” on the market. As a matter of fact, you can find essential oils available in just about any store that sells personal care products.
Don’t be deceived. Many of these brands are not as pure as they claim to be. That’s why they don’t share the process they use to extract the oils from the plants.
Young Living Therapeutic Grade Essential Oils
One company that I’ve come to know quite well that offers undeniably pure essential oils is Young Living.
Young Living oils are pure and potent. I’ve used them personally to alleviate headaches, minimize my son’s seizures and relax after a long day.
Young Living offers more than 300 essential oil single notes and blends. Each of these oils goes through a rigorous process before being released to the public.
Here’s an except as posted on the Young Living website:
The process Young Living uses when planting, cultivating, harvesting, and distilling a batch of oil is crucial to retaining its vital compounds. Without the exact blend of naturally-occurring plant chemicals, an essential oil can lose its beneficial properties and fail to produce the desired effect.
Young Living Therapeutic Grade (YLTG) means that every essential oil Young Living distills or sources has the optimal naturally-occurring blend of constituents to maximize the desired effect. Young Living is able to make this assertion because of our strict cultivation process—illustrated by the Four Ps—that guarantees the optimal potency of every Young Living essential oil. (Plants, Preparation, Purity, Potency)
You can’t get any better than that and as mentioned, I’ve experienced it first hand.
So, even if you want to jump right in a tub or lay across your bed, you can add Young Living’s essential oils to the mix for an evening of pure relaxation. Here are some of the single oils and blends you can try for relaxation:
- Lavender
- Peace & Calming
- Release
- Joy
- Frankincense
- Cypress
Here are some single oils you can use for uplifting your emotions and encouraging mental alertness:
- Grapefruit
- Sandalwood
- Juniper
- Rosemary
Whatever your emotional state, essential oils can help to balance those out of control emotions.
